Mr. Paul Edward Setzekorn of Carlyle, formerly of Ashley, departed this life at St. Joseph's Hospital in Breese on Sunday, Aug. 30, 2009, at 12:37 p.m. He had attained the age of 73 years, 3 months and 27 days. Mr. Setzekorn was born on May 3, 1936, at Ashley, the son of Trevor J. and Fern (Wilson) Setzekorn. He was united in marriage to Wanda Carpenter on March 15, 1958, at Logan Street Baptist Church in Mt. Vernon, and she survives his passing. Paul was a member of the United States Army as a Specialist 3rd Class from 1957 until 1959, having served time in Germany. He then received his bachelor's degree in education from McKendree College. He was a school teacher for 35 years until his retirement, having taught at Ashley Grade School, Johannisburg Grade School and Summerfield-Lebanon Grade School. He served as the Summerfield Town Village Trustee and a volunteer Summerfield fireman where he was the associate chief. He then moved to Ashley, where he was past president of the Ashley Cemetery Board, a 4-H leader, and a member of the Ashley Library Board where he was instrumental in compiling and organizing graduating class pictures for the History Room. Paul was a member of the Fouts Christian Church in Irvington, a 25-year member of the Lions Club and a farmer. Left to mourn his passing is his wife Wanda Setzekorn of Carlyle; two daughters, Kathy Ilges and her husband Warren of Carlyle and Sharon Boldt and her husband Jerry of Ashley; one sister, Emma Lou Mueller of Okawville; two brothers, David Setzekorn of Centralia and Fred Setzekorn of Richview; three grandchildren, Kara and husband Eric Borowiak, Kelsie and Kyle Boldt; two great-grandchildren, Shaelyn and Evan Borowiak; two foster children of three years, Rusty and Brian Haizlip; and other relation and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Glen, Richard and George; and one grandchild, Kelly Hug. Graveside services will be held at the Ashley City Cemetery in Ashley on Wednesday at 10 a.m. with pastor Jerry Wilson officiating. Those wishing to attend are asked to go directly to the cemetery.Friends may call at the Campagna Funeral Home in Ashley on Tuesday from 6 until 8 p.m. Should friends desire memorial contributions can be made to the Ashley Library or the Fouts Christian Church and will be accepted by the Campagna Funeral Home.Online expressions of sympathy can be made at www.campagnafuneralhomes.com. Paul graduated from Ashley High School, attended Southern Illinois University and graduated from McKendree College. He served two years in the U.S. Army stationed in Europe and taught in the public schools of Illinois for thrity five years and is now retired, living in Ashley.
